Upgrade to XP - when was this done - has your computer worked normally since upgrade? Perhaps you have two Windows operating systems installed?? Saturday, August 19, 2006 at 1:02 pm Posted by Debra (7 messages posted) that is what i am trying to find out i talked to hp tech and they told me the 2nd partition crashed and do not know why i was downloading a movie and when i woke up a couple of hours later monitor black and could not get it to come back up so rebooted and now it is as if i went out and bought a 7 gig (mind you this is a 40 gig harddrive installed here) computer with nothing at all on it they told me if i reformatted all the 40 gig will come back and i should have no problems what i don't understand is why when i had plenty of space left and no bugs, i check everyday, did this happen and is there another way of recovering that partition without reformatting and losing my information there?? Some will go for years and some a matter of days or weeks. You would need a more professional recovery package to try and sort it out but you really need the assistance of someone that has experience in working with failures such as this one. I don't think the forum will be able to help. It's one of those "need to see it" type of problems that may take tools (hardware and/or software) to fix. First start with a diagnostics program from the hard drive manufacturer to check the hard drive for failure and data loss. After that, it can get way more complicated. So your drive has been partitioned - a sensible idea puts WXP on C: and users files/ Applications files on D? Your film download - large download - did it complete; fail for lack of space? Check freespace on your drives - should be enough for your downloads and at least 15-20% left free. Open My Computer, right click drive, Properties, pie chart.
