The absolute best settings are at High and your optional Java scripting totally disabled. But, this is not a perfect internet world where 98+ of the web sites use scripting to one degree or another. I basically set all my zones at Medium High and prompt or disable as needed with my trusted zone with Java enabled (cautiously). I also don't going lurking in the Dark Zones of the 'Net where there is danger ready to attack you just by landing on page. Be cautious! I was able to duplicate your symptoms on mine. I did not try to alter the preset settings on the user preferences i.e. java script enable-disable etc. to run at lower settings. Just another case of Microsoft sticking their nose in to far.
