Hi there,

When you disabled the firewall, did you restart your PC?

From my own experience, network shares can easily be blocked by the Windows Firewall
if you aren't careful, and it sounds like that is the error message you are receiving
when you try to run Computer Management. The application is "searching" for the
network share that it knows should be there, but the firewall on one end or the other
is denying access. I should point out that you need to allow access through ALL
firewalls on every PC sharing the network.

Now, if you disabled the firewall and did not restart, the firewall kernel will
still be active. Once you restart, the firewall will be truly disabled and you can
continue to troubleshoot from there.

The best option is to completely disable the fairly useless XP firewall solution
on all PCs and download something like Comodo or ZoneAlarm free firewalls. Comodo
is the best, but ZA is decent as well. They are far more configurable and effective
than the Windows solution which blocks outgoing traffic only. Just my 2c.

Take care.
