Windows desktop keeps restarting

Hi,
I have a pc with windpowsXP sp2. Today I restarted after removing Kaspersky av 7
and suddenly the following happened:
after rebooting the pc the desktop wallpaper shows with the log in window (normal);
I type username/pw;
window disappears, desktop is blank (save for wallpaper), after a few secs the icons
and taskbar come up (so far so good) but it disappears after 5 secs. Only wallpaper
is visible. After a few seconds the icons on the desktop appear again, only to disappear
again.
This process continues a few times until the desktop stays blank. I scanned using
Lavasoft AdAware and found no viruses/malware. What can I do?
Thanks!
Marc

Boot into safe mode.
Once booted, right-click on My Computer, go to Properties, Advanced, click the Settings
button under Startup and Recovery, and uncheck "Automatically restart."
Then, reboot normally, and, once it's booted, take a look in the Event Log to see
what errors are being reported during boot.

My computer is not restarting, the desktop is restarting. iow c:/windows/explorer.exe
is being restarted repeatedly.
As for the system log, this states that every time the winlogon process occurs. user=the
logged in user. Booting in safe mode makes no difference.

Ah, got it. OK, this *might* work:
Download http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
onto a computer that's working, and copy to a USB drive.
On the problem PC, ignore the fact that explorer won't work. Bring up task manager
using ctrl+shift+esape, and from the task manager file menu, select run, then type
CMD.
Next, copy the combofix.exe file you saved to the USB memory stick to the hard disk
of the PC (using the command line: copy e:\combofox.exe c:\ Of course, use the
correct drive letter for your USB drive in place of e:)
Once you've copied the combofix.exe file, then, still in the command window, run
it from where you saved it. Let it run, and then restart the PC.
Good luck...

Thought that I would let you know that I got my issue resolved. After a look of looking..
ran SUPERAntiSpyware Professional and it corrected the problem. Everything is working
fine again!

Hi Ari,
I already fixed it with Spybot Search and Destroy. Was some trojan...
Thanks for the tip though!
