No Sound

I have no sound on my PC except for that annoying default beep. I look under device manager and everything says that it is working properly. I even reinstalled all drivers and still nothing. The only fishy things I can find are an error code I occasionaly get that says, "No Active Mixer Devices Available" and under Services.Msc there is no spot for Windows Audio (One message thread to start this and it should work). I am running XP on an Intel P4 2.4 with 1 ghz Ram. The Audio is built into the Mother board. HELP!!!!

Wot? No Windows Audio Service listed? That looks to be the problem. First try looking for the registry entry for this, using regedit

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AudioSrv

If that isn't there, it will need to be recreated (I can give you a link to a .reg file to restore it if needed) so please post back with what you find in that registry key. Cheers. Spexx.

OK. The right keys are there but it's the contents of them that are more important.
If you right-click on the AudioSrv key, choose Export and save that key to a .reg
file, then open it with Notepad it should look very much like this:-

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AudioSrv]
