after using ccleaner or regcure the next time I reboot I have no sound... clicking into control panel / sounds / audio I get a message saying " No audio device" or it makes uni modem the default.... I then reinstall vinyl AC'97 and it works fine (even then it wont work with a lot of the streaming sites eg you tube). my laptop is an Optima Centoris W259 Series notebook and I run xp2...

on ccleaner, are you talking about the regcleaner it uses? if so, don't use it if you don't know what the registry entries are for. if you aren't probably your other regcleaner program is to blame.

regcure is crapware, and you should uninstall it. Stay away from cleaning the registry just for fun, as you see it can cause more harm then good many times.

Oh I love Regcure! The damage it can do has given me many a callout and fee. Get rid of it. CCleaner is the only one that I recommend and the registry cleaning is usually safe, but it is always wise to use the backup facility before cleaning out. The file cleaning section of CCleaner should be used "sparingly" as some of the options e.g. cleaning out prefetch folder are unwise. Hope this helps. Cheers. Spexx.

Generally, you don't need to do much registry cleaning to keep Windows running happily. It is a bit of a myth about registry cleaning speeding up Windows. I only use CCleaner to clean the registry after uninstalling software, since it always finds a few issues after that. If you are concerned about cleaning out traces of your usage of the system, CCleaner is very good for that. It is a good housekeeping tool, worth keeping. Cheers. Spexx.
