Taskbar gone and programs won't load

Without making any major changes, my taskbar disappeared before XP Home loaded up my programs through Startup Delayer. Checking Task Manager, I found explorer.exe missing, but no likely suspects. I used Task Manager to start explorer.exe, and the taskbar and icons appeared only 10 seconds, then disappeared. They flash on and off. For a while I was able to use another file-directory program to open my up-to-date NOD 32 and do a full scan that found nothing. I also copied explorer.exe off an installation CD and from an XP Pro computer, but that didn't fix it. Then, after rebooting, the server is balking at starting that file manager or any program through Task Manager, which shows no reason for the slowdown. SFC /scannow and alternatives don't work in Task Manager or at Safe Mode prompt. What's worse, my Sony Vaio from Fry's didn't come with an OEM CD -- XP is in the HDD under i386. So when asked I am unable to supply the XP CD, and my computer won't let me browse for that folder. Could some kind soul please point me in the right direction? Thank you so much in advance.

There should be a hidden partition on the hard drive that you can access at boot time via a key combination, often it's Ctrl+F11.

Too late now, but there is probably an option in your Sony folder to create a recovery CD which you should have done right after getting the system.

What is the model number, the Users Guide should have information on both the above.
