Plug and play error on startup

Hi, I keep getting a plug and play error on startup, and this is causing my footpedal that i have to use to listen to files not to work. I have no idea what to do! Normally I can just plug this USB footpedal into any puter and it starts working normally. Now though on this puter, when i try to use the footpedal, it tells me the file is not in a supported format..so I know it isn't the footpedal. What do I do to fix the plug and play error? I went to the device manager and I see the yellow question mark beside "other devices" and then the subcategory "multimedia audio controller." i am completely lost. sigh. Thanks for any help you can give me.

What that means is that XP has no driver for the device so first things first: does the manufacturer have a driver for XP available for download? If so did you install it?
