Windows slows down after Ram memory upgrade

Windows slows down after Ram memory upgrade

I recently installed Ram memory on my 790 MHZ computer from 180 MB to 512 MB. I thought
it would increase the speed instead it slowed down than before.
The System info reads 512 MB Ram. Means it was installed properly and computer recognised
it without any device problems.
Can somebody please help?

Hard to believe that it could be slower than before. You might try running memtest86,
Google for it.

Double check the RAM's compatibility with the MotherBoard.
http://www.crucial.com
Search by Computer MFG & Model#, or Motherboard # if you have it available.
You can't always trust what is printed on the Memory.

Maximum Memory: 512MB
Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
Standard Memory: 64MB removable
USB Support: 1.x Compliant.
I installed 256 MB in each slot.
Any idea?

Are you really sure?
This statement: "64MB removable USB Support: 1.x Compliant" has nothing to do with
System RAM.

Take a good look at the tags on the RAM, also compare the size, number of and location
(both sides, all one side) of the modules. Compare to the old ones you removed.
PC133 can be tricky, some of it is not well marked with data, some data can be omitted.
I'm looking at three New Kingston PC133 Dimms I bought for one of my older computers.
I can't see any real difference between them and what was in it, but they will not
work on my MOBO that requires PC133 Ram. I bought them off Craigslist, so I'm stuck
with them.
I researched them through Kingston and found that they are specific to a small number
of motherboards. Mine is not one of them.
You may have to go the the MFg's web Site and search by the info on the lable.
If you purchased them new, take one of your old Dimms with you and return them to
the place you got them. Get them to match what you have by Spec in 256mb Modules.

Thanks for your input Bob!
The info I had was:RAM (standard): 128 MB PC 100,
Maximum: 512 MB(2x256MB DIMMS), Speed: 100 MHZ synchronous, Sockets: Two 168 pins
DIMMS, Size 32,64,128, and 256 MB DIMMS
Free DIMM Socket: One, Pairs required: NO, Type supported: SDRAM, 100 MHZ, Intel
PC SDRAM unbuffered DIMM specifications, revision compliant.
What I got is: Dell 2x256MB HP Pavilion 168pin PC100 SDRAM
I replaced both of them and computer started without problem or error, only problem
is it much slower than before.
